Bravo on episode 4, gentlemen….I really enjoyed it….and, thanks, Matthew for perfectly giving voice to my own thoughts. Silverview, by any standard, was not his best book. Certainly not one of the handful of novels he’ll be remembered by. But, as you said, ‘it was a gift’….an unexpected opportunity to, once again, revisit all that made you love him in the first place. To again, experience his mastery of language and cadence that was uniquely his. It’s so laughable that book blurbs continue to paint new author’s as ‘the next le Carre’. I understand it’s all marketing, but still.. His was a unique talent, There’s always going to be the ‘next big thing’ and other greats will emerge in the field. But another le Carre?….not going to happen.
